If there is no back-up power supply the nozzle will be left open and in-turn air will enter into the system, this results in the drying of ink, clogging the system. The UPS allows for a proper shutdown of the printer, which includes closing the nozzle, tightly sealing it so that the ink does not dry off and its viscosity remains the same.
